food that’s totally devoid of nutritional value doesn’t exist. all food has macronutrients which our bodies rely on to support life, and the vast majority of food has a significant amount of micronutrients. pop tarts, cheeseburgers, french fries, pizza, cookies, chips, white flour products and other demonized foods contain vital micronutrients such as iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, b vitamins, vitamin c, and more. meat is a better source of some essential micronutrients than plant foods.

vegetables and fruits are great, as are legumes, but they’re not the only nutrient-dense foods. they tend to be lower calorie & higher fiber foods, tho, which in conditions of scarcity (the reality for many ppl on earth, incl the ~developed world~) are far less efficient delivery systems for nutrients.

“empty calories” aren’t a thing - calories are units of energy - and you’d have to work pretty hard to find a food that contained no significant amount of any micronutrient. again, all foods have the macronutrients that keep us alive.

kindly get off my posts about the health benefits of eating foods you enjoy w this shaming nonsense about “foods that have no nutritional value”. i’m sorry your relationship w food is characterized by fear & a mistrust of pleasure, but we’re not here to keep you company in your misery

I’m all for being skeptical of diet culture and loving your body and all that, but eating 2000 calories in burgers and fries and soda is in no way comparable to 2000 calories in fruits and veggies and whole grains.

I think balance in a diet tends to be key, but eating a greasy diet full of red meat and processed sugar does nothing but hamper your body’s abilities both physically and mentally. Again this isn’t even about weight or body image or whatever, have a burger or milkshake or whatever that’s great, but when someone calls those empty calories it means you’re not gonna get the same benefit from those calories compared to a different source.

I saw this as someone who loves burgers and junk food, but I know that generally eating oatmeal and fruit for breakfast is gonna help me have a way more productive and fulfilling day than like pancakes.

this post is driving me insane like it’s just straight up mischaracterizing how foods work. like pretending “empty calories” means no nutrients like no bitch! the term is entirely used to denote foods (usually sugary drinks) that take have a lot of calories but don’t have many nurtients/vitamins people need. You cannot just plug your ears and pretend that because junk foods have nutrients you need in some capacity means they can’t be bad is literal corporate propaganda for food corps.

if you really think you can build popular support for socialism by conceding every criticism against former socialist countries because you don’t want to scare people away by refuting the pop history books that have made the western left uniquely anticommunist compared to the global south and eastern europe then i don’t know what to tell you other than the most prominent radical leftist groups in america specifically trotskyist organizations have been doing this for the past 50 years albeit for different reasons and things have only gotten worse and americans still think the only system that can end imperialism will kill them

ragingcitrustree

To be fair, americans are much more amenable to anarchism than to communism. Our anarchic roots go much deeper than our communist roots and anarchism is pervasive throughout all of our modern leftist movements. Like idk what europeans are getting up to but here in the US, anarchy is on the upswing. Mostly because a lot of the hottest, sexiest tgirls are anarchists.

spaghettioverdose

Oooor it’s because of red scare propaganda that is pervasive to this day perhaps. It could be because the US government made sure to put in a whole lot of effort to thoroughly wipe out, assassinate and dismantle all the serious communist organisations within its borders that posed an actual threat.

“We are simply more anarchist here and that’s why there’s fewer communists” is a really funny view of history fr.

This is what pops into the average American’s head when they picture “an anarchist.” Communism is an extremely marginal political movement in the United States, but acting as if anarchism is any less so is nothing short of delusional.

“anarchism is on the upswing” maybe as a lifestyle choice but certainly not among working people
